Assemblage in Jewelry Design

Someone told me the other day that I had an eye for assemblage. I knew he meant it as a compliment, but I couldn't get past the fact that I didn't know exactly what he was talking about.

I figured 'assemblage' was related to assembly, and that he was referring to the layered steampunk designs I create for my shop Sleepless Storyteller. If you've been following me here on the Junkpile, you might have read my love of layering post.

Now that I know, I wanted to share the exact meaning of assemblage, as it relates to artwork and crafting.
"Assemblage is an artistic process. In the visual arts, it consists of making three-dimensional or two-dimensional artistic compositions by putting together found objects." - Wikipedia
Does your work qualify as assemblage? Do you use 'found objects' or recycle in any way?
