Working with eDebris

I'm excited to announce that Beyond Junk has a new supplier. Based in New York, eDebris is an amazing company working to keep computer and electronic waste out of our landfills. If you're in New York or New Jersey, check them out to see if they can pick up from your home.

Naturally, the opportunity to partner with such a positive like-minded company was a great fit for Beyond Junk. So keep your eyes peeled for new listings coming soon. More keyboard keys, laptop keys, buttons, motor windings, and other goodies will be popping up as fast as I can photograph them. Browse computer parts for these items and more!

Vintage Toys & Vintage Playmobil

Beyond Junk just got a little friendlier with the addition of an adorable Playmobil family. Their arrival also led to the creation of a vintage toys section, breaking off from plastic charms and beads. Enjoy!

Crafty Profiles: Wearwolfs

Fans of recycled accessories will love today's Crafty Profile. Artist Vicki Wolf from Tucson, Arizona specializes in delicate roses, charming hearts, and unique hand-cut designs. Her creations for Wearwolfs Recycled Jewelry & Wearable Art make recycling fun for just about any style or taste. Here's a quick look what makes her work unique.

Shop: Wearwolfs
Goods: rings and pendants made of layered aluminum can pieces

Beyond Junk:
How did you get started as a crafter? And what inspired you to work with aluminum cans?

Wearwolfs:

My son is a teacher and collecting and re-creating from aluminum cans started with a project I did with his students. The kids brought in cans to recycle and at Christmas we ALL made ornaments from the collection. I could see it "tweeking" how the children looked at what they were throwing away and it sparked the idea. I've worn many "artist" coats over the years and using colorful recycled metals instead of the usual brass, silver, gold is very exciting! Now I make goodies out of many discarded items; aluminum cans, license plates, bottle caps, aluminum mini blinds, found objects. Even my packaging is from recycled boxes and cardboard!

Beyond Junk:
What motivated you to start an online store?

Wearwolfs:
Well, I am a stay at home "Gramma Nanny" to my fabulous grandson Jax, and the online store is the easiest way to get my product out to the public. I started on Etsy in 2008 and also sell regularly to an amazing Tucson shop called Popcycle. I also do a few select art fairs through out the year. The art fairs are very important to me as I enjoy people and highly value their feedback.

Beyond Junk:
How important is the recycling and eco-friendly aspect of your work?

Wearwolfs:
Using items that others discard is the prime purpose for Wearwolfs. My goal is to first attract the buyer with the fun, funky nature of my product. Then I want to "wow" them with the fact that it is made up from recycled items! I call it the one- two punch! It returns me to the joy of watching people "tweek" how they think about what they throw away. It's my little kiss to Mother Earth. I actually have a little following of people who collect their cans, license plates and beer caps for me to reuse. I love that!

Beyond Junk:
Tell us a bit about your plans for Wearwolfs Recycled Jewelry & Wearable Art.

Wearwolfs:
Hmmmm.... just plugging away. I would like to have an independent store front on the web. Becoming more involved with other people who are recycling found goodies into art is on my wish list. I feel there is a growing interest in recycled goods and that thrills me! I have a desire to expand the range of things I make but my time constraints are prohibitive at this time. Sometimes you just have to relax, breath and see where life takes you! That is my little morning mantra!
